Westgate RNAS

AviationPosted by Peter Smith Sat, August 11, 2018 18:39:21

One hundred years ago there was a naval air base at Westgate -on-Sea, where I once lived, which is just a 10 minute drive away. As you can imagine, given that it closed in 1920 there is little to see today. However, the recent dry weather has revealed the outline of one of the original hangars adjacent to what is now a car park. Looking at the B&W image the long hangar in the foreground has left its mark in the shot taken by Simon Moores. A bit of a slipway survives and the is also a plaque on the prom.
