A revised 'local plan' for Thanet was before a full council meeting tonight. The plan sets out housing and business infrastructure until 2031. The biggest change from the current plan was the removal of the designation of Manston from aviation use only to mixed use development for housing and business. The vote was 35 to 20 against the revised plan so Manston's aviation designation remains at present. The resignation of the UKIP council leader is being called for (again) not least because he strongly supported the revised local plan despite UKIP securing their council election win three years ago on the back of a 'save Manston airport' campaign..
All a bit of a shambles with a degree of uncertainty, especially in local housing policy, whilst we await Riveroak to submit their DCO application, probably within the next few weeks.
